More than 700,000 au-domains are registered
ICANN Registrar Secura: Fast and reliabe registration of au-domains (PresseBox) (Cologne, ) More than 700,000 au-domains are registered. How can a company or private person register an au-domain?

Since July 1 2002 there are new rules for au-domains: The net.au and com.au-domains are still restricted to Australian Companies, but also a foreign company licenced to trade in Australia, an owner or applicant of a Trade Mark are entiteled to com.au-domains. The foreign company must not have an Australian Trade Mark: an international trade mark valid in Australia is sufficient.

The au-domains should be identical with the companies name or the trade marks, but can also be an acronym or abbreviation of the business name or trademark. And it is also sufficient, that the domain names are otherwise closely and substantially connected to the registrant, because they refer to a product, service, an event, an activity, a venue or a profession of the registrant.

Since July 1 2002 also one important rule has changed: The number of au-domains per applicant is no longer limited. In other words: A company or private person can register as many domain names as it is needed.

There are several eligibility criterias:

-trading under an Australian registered business name
-aforeign company licensed to trade in Australia
-an owner of an Australian registered Trade Mark
-an applicant for an Australian registered Trade Mark
-an owner of International Trade Mark valid in Australia
