Lead-Free Piezo Material Enters Series Production

PI Ceramic with Pioneering Technology
PIC 700 material (PresseBox) (Karlsruhe, ) PI Ceramic (PIC), a worldwide leading player in the field of actuator and sensoric piezo products, now offers a lead-free piezo material for lead-free ultrasonic transducers.

The PIC 700 material is based on bismuth-sodium-titanat (BNT) and is produced as a block by pressing technology. The piezoelectric characteristics are promising: PIC 700 has a high coupling factor for the flexural vibration and is thus suitable as an ultrasonic transducer in the MHz range and also for sonar and hydrophone applications. The maximum operating temperature is 200°C. PI Ceramic is currently investigating technologies to reliably manufacture lead-free ceramic components in series production.

Since 1992, PIC has been developing and manufacturing piezo ceramic materials and components for standard and OEM solutions: piezo components, ultrasonic transducers, actuators and system solutions. The PICMA® multilayer actuator technology, which received an award for its reliability, is one of many inventions of PIC. PI Ceramic, a subsidiary of Physik Instrumente (PI), is located in the city of Lederhose, Thuringia, Germany.
