Breitbild VFX showcased their work at the gamescom

Animation Studio designs main menu for Risen 2
Risen 2 main menu (PresseBox) (Eislingen, ) Visitors of the largest European games convention, the gamescom [], had the chance to catch a sneak preview of the upcoming game "Risen 2: Dark Waters". The Breitbild Visual Effects team contributed to the game by working on a rendered 3D Animation for the Main Menu of the game.

Publisher Deep Silver [], a division of Koch Media GmbH, turned to Breitbild VFX to develop an animated 3D background for the main menu of the third person role-playing game. "The challenge was to capture the atmosphere of the game and reflect it in the 3D animation of the main menu", said Francesco Faranna, Managing Director of Breitbild VFX.

The animation includes loopable flame and smoke simulations which were produced using Chaosgroup Phoenix FD. The animation, rendered in Breitbild VFXs own render farm, was designed to accommodate the different aspect ratios and resolutions of most monitors. Using Autodesk 3ds Max and ChaosGroup V-Ray, the Breitbild VFX team used their expertise to give the animation a gritty, authentic feel - most visible in the objects of the animation.

The end product convinced Alexander Stein, Art Director at Deep Silver: "It was great working with Breitbild VFX - I could rely on Breitbild for the creation of the Main Menu animation."

Fans can look forward to the release of the game in the first half of 2012. Publisher Deep Silver [] and developer Piranha Bytes [] work on making the game even more successful than its precursor Risen. In the meantime, check out the trailer at
