Cylindrical precision grinding and complete machining operations for tool design applications
(PresseBox) (Herborn, ) Universal cylindrical grinding machine for internal and external grinding operations on tooling components for extrusion, deep drawing, and equipment manufacturing applications. Our IRD 400 series machine may easily respond to all requirements a universal grinding machine is expected to live up to.

The machine described here has been designed to perform all grinding tasks on chucked components in a single clamping operation. This machine is equipped with a special W-axis extension and a steady rest to enable the machining of components with a total length of up to 400 mm.

For grinding operations the machine includes two internal grinding spindles and one spindle for external and face grinding operations. On top of that, the machine has been equipped with a B0-axis permitting the workhead to pivot from -2 to +92°. In combination with the 3-axis interpolating software the user may now grind varying radii in polishing quality as well as faces using the entire range of the grinding wheel.

Moreover, the workhead pivoting function comes in very handy during taper grinding. B1-axis for stepless positioning of the grinding wheel and the additionally function of changing the grinding spindle. This axis will also be used to approach the gauging tip mounted on the spindle revolver to the workpiece where it measures the component's position in direction Z, automatically adjusting the diameter on the workpiece component if necessary.

In all, the IRD 400 features 4 CNC axes, offering a significant amount of flexibility with up to a total of 4 grinding spindles. To enable the user to use this flexibility in the most efficient way the engineers at Danobat-Overbeck developed a simulation software eliminating the danger of collisions at the earliest possible moment within the machining process. This machine may be used to perform internal, external, as well as face and taper grinding operations.

Optionally, the user may procure a controlled workhead spindle (C-axis) and the respective software to create non-circular shapes.
