German Foundry Day 2013: German Foundries Cautiously Optimistic of Economic Situation

Foundry Day 2013 (PresseBox) (Füssen, ) More than 600 visitors attended the German Foundry Day 2013 and the 5th NEWCAST-Forum in Fellbach. The visitors were able to catch up on the latest developments in the foundry industry with a total of 30 lectures

The current situation of foundry industry was brought to light in the opening presentation. Lars Steinheider, President of the "Verein Deutscher Giessereifachleute" (VDG) German Association of Foundry Professionals, described in his speech, "Don't miss out on the future - this is foundry technology of tomorrow with people of today,". The German foundry industry will focus on new campaigns targeting shortages in skills and recruitment campaigns. The German foundry industry is one of the world's leading foundry nations. With modern production methods, innovative economic casting solutions can be realized in this country. "Only with highly trained professionals, can we maintain this leading position," says Steinheider, President of the VDG.

Dr.-Engineer Will Fuchs (VDI) explained in his lecture, "Does production have a place in Germany in the future?" He also explained that future innovations are the key to economic success in Germany. Especially in times of increasing globalization and more importantly, says Fuchs, to expand the technological leadership of the German foundry industry. "A stand still is a step backwards," said Fuchs.

Dr.-Ing. Erwin Flender, President of the Association of the German Foundry Industry (BDG) gave a detailed view of the "situation and potential of the German foundry industry." Flender turned his attention to the economic development of the foundry industry. His outlook for the second half of 2013 is seemingly optimistic. "The German foundries are well-positioned in the international competitive environment and have significant know-how advantages," says Flender.

A main focus of discussion was the cost of the energy transformation, the increase in cost of raw materials and the associated negative results of German foundry industry tips and strategies to continue manufacturing high tech casting products in Germany.

The German foundry industry is covering the energy tranformation policy, but understands the need for reform in the EEG. The Federation of German foundry industry strongly advocates retention and a smooth entry into this hardship in order to avoid distortions of competition.

Current technology trends throughout the entire process chain were presented to the interested public of suppliers of the foundry industry. Visitors of the foundry day received a 2013 technology insight into current trends of major suppliers. The topics of light weight construction, sustainability and energy efficiency were also current topics in the forefront. The exhibitors were impressed not only by the number of visitors, but also the quality of talks that they had at their stands. Exhibitors have already confirmed their participation in the coming year.

The German Foundry 2014 will take place on the 15th and 16th of May in Hamburg and the 6th NEWCAST-Forum during the event of the GIFA from the 16th to 20th of June 2015 in Dusseldorf.
