Pironet NDH Links Kulmbacher Sites

Beer brewer with rich tradition switches to MPLS
(PresseBox) (Cologne, ) Kulmbacher Brauerei AG has outsourced the operation of its corporate network to Pironet NDH. The technology and solution provider has integrated all of the drinks manufacturer's 13 sites into a single network. Via the corporate network Kulmbacher provides the connected breweries with all the business-critical information; the operating processes have been simplified and accelerated. The central IT strategy also enables new sites to be connected faster.

The starting point was a fundamental decision to support no transmission standards except the Internet Protocol (IP) in the future. Consequently Kulmbacher reorganised its application environment and thus created the basis for handling the Group's data traffic via a broadband network with state-of-the-art Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology.

The increased capacity is particularly important, because in addition to mail traffic and the Data Warehouse, the human resources information system and other administrative processes such as batch tracing and quality assurance are used via the network. The beverages company decided to outsource operations to Pironet NDH. In line with the outsourcing agreement, the service provider takes over complete responsibility for operating the corporate network.

"The new IT service strategy already proved its worth when the Würzburger Brauerei AG brewery group was taken over while the network was still being set up," reports Dr. Klaus Langer, CIO and Head of Information Management of the Kulmbacher Group. "As we now operate general applications such as the ERP system and Intranet for all the breweries in our data centre we were able to connect the four additional sites to the network at short notice."

Andreas Lüddeke, Director Corporate Networks of Pironet NDH, also points to the future benefits of the network link: "With our model Kulmbacher significantly reduces its costs and enjoys greater technical flexibility. Furthermore, guaranteed Service Level Agreements enable us to map the customer's requirements transparently and to satisfy them in full at any time."

The next step Kulmbacher plans is to use Voice over IP (VoIP) to handle telephone traffic via the network, too. Here the network's MPLS technology ensures interrupt-free telephone conversations by giving priority to the transfer of voice traffic.
