MSC Technologies offers new COM Express modules for cost-sensitive IoT systems

MSC Technologies offers new COM Express modules for cost-sensitive IoT systems (PresseBox) (Stutensee, Germany, ) MSC Technologies, a company of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), has extended its COM Express™ product portfolio by powerful modules with latest processor types particularly suitable for cost-sensitive IoT applications. The MSC C6C-BW module family based on Intel's current Atom™ processor platform (codenamed „Braswell“), which was announced last year by MSC Technologies, has got a new member based on the Intel® Atom™ x5-E8000. This quad-core processor has an extremely low power dissipation of maximum 5 W and is available at a price level significantly below that of the earlier variants. It operates at a nominal clock rate of 1.04 GHz and can achieve 2.0 GHz in burst mode.

For higher performance requirements, the new Celeron® module in the MSC C6C-SLU COM Express™ family from MSC Technologies, up to now available with low-power Core™ processors of the 6th generation, may fill the gap. The newly added Intel® Celeron® 3955U processor differs from the i3, i5 and i7 types by also having an extremely favorable price with very slight restrictions on the computing and graphic performance. The dual-core processor runs at 2.0 GHz with a nominal TDP of 15 W. This power loss can even be limited to 10 W (cTDP) with a BIOS setting. This allows the module to be used in systems with passive cooling.

Thanks to the integrated Gen8 Intel® HD Graphics, the MSC C6C-BW module family ‒ in the compact form factor of 95 mm x 95 mm ‒ offers a powerful graphics performance for the high-resolution imaging and fast video playback. Three independent displays with up to 4k x 2k resolution can be connected via HDMI, DisplayPort and embedded DisplayPort interfaces. A broad range of modern interfaces includes two SATA 3, four USB 3.0, four USB 2.0 and up to five PCI Express™ x1 channels. A microSD card can be plugged in as an on-board mass storage device.

The more powerful MSC C6C-SLU COM Express™ modules offer hardware-based graphics acceleration and video encoding/decoding. The on-chip Intel® HD Graphics Gen. 9 supports DirectX® 12, OpenGL 4.4., and OpenCL 2.x. The Type-6 pin-out includes LVDS or embedded DisplayPort (eDP), DisplayPort, and DVI/HDMI for the connection of three displays with up to 4k x 2k pixels, 4 x USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports, eight PCIe x1 Lanes, and 3 x SATA,. An integrated Trusted Platform Module (TPM) ensures additional security features.
