Wind energy: TÜV Rheinland hands over type certificate to Ming Yang

Type certification for 2-MW wind turbine Ming Yang MY121-2.0MW / Certification in line with IEC 61400-22 / Cooperation with China General Certification / TÜV Rheinland positioned as global certification provider
Windenergie (PresseBox) (Köln, ) TÜV Rheinland has handed over a type certificate to Chinese wind turbine manufacturer Ming Yang after successful completion of the certification procedure. Type certification was provided for 2-MW wind turbine Ming Yang MY121-2.0MW according to the international standard IEC 61400-22:2010. The platform incorporates a 120.4 m meters rotor with hub height of 90 meters, suitable for low wind conditions. The project was undertaken in cooperation with China General Certification (CGC), the leading certification body in the Chinese market, and completed as planned after a project period of 18 months.

With this successful certification for a manufacturer ranking among the global top ten, TÜV Rheinland can now add another well-known reference for its certification activities. "We are proud that our performance has rewarded the confidence that Ming Yang, one of the leading manufacturers, has reposed in us, and that we have confirmed our expertise and capability as a global certification body in the wind energy industry", said Matthias Laatsch, Head of Wind Energy at TÜV Rheinland. "Our local presence on site allowed us to complete the certification project with optimal processes in the customer's interest", said the expert.

Ming Yang is an important Chinese wind turbine manufacturer focusing on the design, manufacture, sale and maintenance of wind turbines in the Megawatt class. In terms of installed capacity, Ming Yang is one of the largest wind turbine manufacturers in the world and the largest private wind turbine manufacturer in China. Ming Yang runs research and development offices in Asia, Europe and North America and intends to massively extend its business both in China and overseas markets.

The China General Certification Center (CGC) is one of the leading certification bodies in the renewable energy sector in China under the management of the National Institute of Metrology (NIM) and was authorized in 2003 by the Certification and Accreditation Administration of the People’s Republic of China (CNCA). CGC is a third-party certification body dedicated to the development of standards and certification in the field of wind and solar energy and other renewable energies as well as energy efficiency.

TÜV Rheinland is accredited by DAkkS, the German accreditation body, as a certification organization for type and component certification for onshore and offshore wind turbines according to national and international standards, and is listed as an RE Certification Body by the IECRE. The company offers ambitious services such as location analysis, geotechnical exploration and verification of structural analysis but also manufacturer monitoring, quality inspection and construction monitoring. As an inspection body accredited by DAkkS according to DIN EN 17020, TÜV Rheinland offers wind turbine operators recurring and state-oriented testing, digitally assisted assessment of system conditions and special examinations by means of the latest destruction-free test methods. Special location reports, due diligence investigations and yield forecasting in turn serve to secure investments.
